As we enter the new year, CESDP would like to invite you to a monthly blog where we will share a few of the things being developed in our “shop,” including some reflections and insights on exciting things to come!
We continue to be inspired and energized by the work we do on your behalf and the work that are partners and collaborators in the field are doing throughout New Mexico and beyond. In southern NM we would like to give a big “shout out” to the Borderlands and Ethnic Studies Department at NMSU for their work on the Southern New Mexico Place-Based Lesson Writing Collective. Over eight units have been developed and each is formatted to be accessible and useful to educators working to respond to the Martinez/Yazzie court ruling and the 2020 New Mexico Public Education Department Social Studies standards.
Similarly, at CESDP we continue to develop the Acequia and Land Grant Education Project with a digital library full of lesson plans available in both English and Spanish related to land, water, and associated cultural topics in New Mexico. With three members from the land and water community working on unit plans, a coloring book, and a workbook that we will soon add to our digital collection, CESDP intends to make a valuable impact on classroom practices in New Mexico by creating quality placed-based and culturally-sustaining learning experiences for our teachers and their students.
